Actor-singer Miguel Ayesa, Philippine-born and Sydney-raised, is one of 15 finalists in the running as replacement for the late Michael Hutchence in reality television’s Rock Star: INXS in a worldwide search created by ‘Survivor’ and ‘The Apprentice’ producer Mart Burnett.

The American Idol competition copy, launched to find a new lead singer for the Australian band INXS, will start telecasts on July 11.

Miguel (pictured), who went to school at St Patrick’s College in the Sydney suburb of Strathfield, is now based in London to further pursue his stage career there. In Australia, has performed on television, including gigs such as Sydney's annual Christmas carols program where top entertainers and singers are invited to perform for charity. He also appeared on TV commercials.

Miguel sings and plays guitar. He is best remembered for stage musical roles in Buddy Holly ~ he sang La Bamba as the late Ritchie Valens ~ and in Rent. He has also performed in London musicals.

A CBS press release on Rock Star: INXS describes Miguel as “a married 35-year-old musician/actor born in Manila, raised in Sydney, Australia, and currently residing in London, England”. Named as the program’s co-hosts were E! Entertainment personality Brooke Burke and rock guitarist Dave Navarro.

While the program will include a performance and elimination format similar to Fox's American Idol, it will also feature “the contestants' behind-the-scenes interpersonal relationships as well as their weekly onstage performances. But unlike Idol, the program will not rely entirely on viewer voting for the weekly eliminations, opting instead for a combination of viewer participation, the show's as-of-yet undisclosed judges, and INXS' current members”.

Ayesa now gets a chance to become INXS' new lead singer, to participate in a world concert tour with the band and sing on the band's new album. INXS' lead vocalist Michael Hutchence died in Sydney in1997. He visited Manila in the 1980s. #

The article didn't specify if Miguel Ayesa was borne of "Filipino parents" or was just plain born in Manila. What the heck he is part PINOY!

HI JOEY,

This is not related to your posted topic here. You may not have noticed it, but I have some questions for you re: the assessment of your nominated occupation under the topic My Timeline (specifically posted in 52 weeks plus 6 weeks). I hope you'd have the time to see it and to give me some info.

Thanks.

I hope Miguel gets the exposure but not the gig. I dont know how much you know of INXS but Hutchence was a rock god in Oz. Replacing him in INXS will be near impossible as I dont see Oz fans accepting anyone at all replacing Hutchence. If he did get the gig and the band failed that could possibly cost him his career. He is probably just looking for more exposure. If he gets the gig and they succeed then he will clearly be seen as the reason for it. 8 years is a long time for a band to not have a lead singer and major exposure.
